"Lily and her fluffy cat, Patches, loved looking at the night sky. "Patches," she whispered, "Grandma is so far away. How can she see my pictures so fast?""

"Suddenly, a friendly face blinked in the sky. It was a little satellite, sparkling like a diamond. "I can show you!" it beeped softly. "My name is Glimmer.""

""I'm not alone," said Glimmer. "I have thousands of brothers and sisters, all holding hands in a long line around the Earth. We are a team!""

"Whoosh! In a blink, Lily and Patches were floating in space next to Glimmer. The Earth below looked like a big, blue and green marble. "Wow!" gasped Lily."

""When you send a picture," Glimmer explained, "it zips from your house to a special station on the ground. It travels in a little packet of light!""

""The station on the ground catches your picture and sends it up to me with a super-fast 'hello' beam!" beeped Glimmer."

""Now for the really cool part! I use a special space laser to pass your picture to my sister satellite, who is way over on the other side of the world.""

""My sister catches the laser and sends the picture down to your Grandma's house. It's like a super-fast game of catch, but with light!""

"And just like that, Grandma sees the picture of Lily and Patches! She smiles a big, warm smile, feeling like they are right there with her."

"Back in her room, Lily hugged Patches tightly. The stars seemed even friendlier now. "Space lasers!" she whispered. "It's like magic that connects us all.""
