The Garden's Little Gardeners – Page 1
"Buzzy the bee loved the big, bright garden. He loved the tall sunflowers and the sweet-smelling roses. But there was one thing Buzzy didn't love. "Eek! A bee!" the children would shriek, and run away. This made Buzzy's little antennae droop."

"One sunny afternoon, Buzzy sat on a leaf, feeling glum. A fluffy, wise old bee named Elderbloom landed beside him. "What's wrong, little buzzer?" he hummed kindly. "The children are scared of me," Buzzy buzzed sadly. "They don't know I'm a helper.""

"Elderbloom smiled a fuzzy smile. "Then we must show them! Our job is the most important in the whole garden. We are the Garden's Little Gardeners. Watch me!""

"Buzzy watched as Elderbloom flew from flower to flower. He dipped his head into a bright red poppy and came out with his fuzzy legs covered in yellow dust. "This is pollen," Elderbloom explained. "We carry it to other flowers to help them make seeds and grow fruit!""

"Buzzy felt a new buzz of excitement. He could be a helper! He flew to a small strawberry blossom, a little white flower with a yellow middle. He wiggled and jiggled, just like Elderbloom showed him, spreading the magic pollen dust."

"From behind a bush, two children named Lily and Tom were watching. "Look," whispered Lily, pointing. "That bee is dancing in the flower." They stayed very still and watched Buzzy fly from one strawberry blossom to the next."

"Day after day, Buzzy and his friends worked hard, visiting every flower in the garden. They visited the apple blossoms on the big tree and the tiny blue flowers on the blueberry bushes. Buzzy was so busy, he forgot all about being sad."

"A few weeks later, Lily and Tom walked through the garden. "Wow!" said Tom. Where the little white flowers had been, there were now bright red, juicy strawberries! The apple tree was heavy with big, round apples."

"Lily saw a familiar little bee resting on a strawberry leaf. It was Buzzy! "He's not dancing anymore," she said softly. "He must be tired from all his hard work." She remembered the little white flowers. "Tom," she said, "I think the bee helped make the strawberries!""

"Buzzy opened his eyes and saw the little girl smiling at him. She wasn't scared! From that day on, Lily and Tom always smiled when they saw the bees. They knew the bees were the Garden's Little Gardeners, working hard to help bring them sweet, yummy treats. And Buzzy's antennae never drooped again."
