"The sun was just peeking over the rooftops as Alicia started her walk to high school. Her new leather jacket felt a little stiff, and her bag, filled with fresh notebooks and a map of the school, felt heavy on her shoulder. She took a deep breath. High school. It sounded so big, so important."

"As she turned the corner onto the main street, she saw a familiar flash of bright pink. It was her best friend, Chloe, waving excitedly from the steps of the old library. Chloe’s backpack was covered in colorful patches and keychains, just like her personality."

"“I was so worried we’d miss each other!” Chloe said, giving Alicia a quick hug. “Did you see the class lists? We have art together first period!” Alicia’s stomach did a little flip. Art was her favorite subject."

"Just then, a boy on a skateboard zoomed past them, weaving expertly through the morning crowd. It was Leo, their friend from middle school. He circled back, grinning. “You two ready for the big leagues?” he asked, his eyes sparkling with mischief."

"Alicia laughed. “As ready as we’ll ever be,” she said. “Did you finish the summer reading?” Leo groaned dramatically. “Don’t remind me. I was up all night with that book.”"

"The three of them walked together, the sound of their chatter mixing with the morning bustle. The high school loomed ahead, a big brick building that looked both exciting and a little scary."

"As they got closer, they saw more familiar faces. There was Maya, the student council president, already organizing a bake sale. And there was Sam, who had spent the summer learning to play the guitar and was now showing off a new song."
